Life University DiscipleshipLife University for Lifetime Learners and Leaders

“It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.”  Coach John Wooden

You Are Already Enrolled in Life University!

Learners are Leaders!  The day you and I were born we were also enrolled into the University of Lifelong Learning.  Think of all you learned during those first months and years such as how to eat by yourself, how to crawl, stand, balance, walk, listen, understand, talk, and read, etc.  Because we are created in the image of an all knowing and all wise God, we are encouraged to become knowledgeable and wise.  God does not have to study to learn, but we do.

Life University is Based on the Bible

Paul encouraged Timothy to “study” or “work hard” at accurately handling God’s Word (2 Timothy 2:15).  Knowing what God’s Word really means requires a willingness to study and learn.  Even the Apostle Paul in his last years asked Timothy to bring his books to him so he could continue to study and learn (2 Timothy 4:13).  Jesus, Himself, provided the example for all of us to become learners.  Luke 2:40 tells us that as a young lad of 12 Jesus was “increasing in wisdom” and in verse 52 we are told “Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men” (Luke 2:52 NASB).

Even in the Old Testament we find that Learning is Important.  Ezra was the great teacher of Israel.  After they returned from captivity in Babylon he gathered the people together and taught them all about the law and what God had done on their behalf as a nation.
“They read from the book, from the law of God, translating to give the sense so that they understood the reading.”  (Nehemiah 8:7-8 NASB).

Life Long Learning is Fun!

Learning is fun.  When we learn new facts and new skills we can do more things that we enjoy and more things that benefit us.  Driving a car can be fun.  But you have to study to get the license and then practice driving.  Golfing is fun, but you have to learn the rules and the etiquette and invest the time and money in practice.

Life Long Learning Opens New Doors

Learning opens new doors of opportunity for us.  Learning to drive a bus, or fly a plane, or play an instrument, gives people new ways of working and serving.  Learning is even vital for getting a job.  In fact, most jobs require continual learning as companies develop new and better ways of serving.

Life University Curriculum

I hope you will take a look at the new LIFE UNIVERSITY Curriculum and pray about taking a new course.  The Curriculum will be posted in the Atrium along with Sign Up Sheets for the courses.  We will also post the Curriculum on our church website and I will post a PDF here to download.  Get enough credits to earn a HTBC Life University Diploma in on of our Learning Tracts.

Who knows what doors God may open for you!

Check back here to see the Spring Curriculum for 2016.

Your fellow learner,

Bro. Kelly
