Free Christmas Sermon: Changed By Christmas

The Adoration of the Shepherds by Bartolome MurilloNeed a Christmas Sermon, or a sermon to preach on Christmas Day?  I preached this sermon on Christmas Day last year.  It is the most basic passage on Christmas from Luke chapter 2.  I find that most people who come to church on Christmas Day, and bring their family to church don’t want a lot of theology to think about, they want to be reminded of the Christmas story and worship the Christ.

Changed By Christmas:  A Christmas Sermon

This sermon for Christmas approaches the message from how the shepherds were changed by Christmas.  It begins with a brief illustration about a man who was profoundly changed by Christmas.  He was a modern day, Scrooge.  Due to being accidentally locked in a vault over Christmas Eve and Christmas day he made some life changing decisions.  Then it moves to the Shepherds and the life changing discovery they made and the life changing decisions they made.

Below is the transitional statement that leads into the body of the message.

“I want to introduce you to some other men whose lives were changed forever by Christmas.  The shepherds we read about in Luke 2:1-20.

Read Luke 2:1-20.  (Especially 2:8-20)  These were the shepherds in the fields near Bethlehem, just outside of Jerusalem, who were probably responsible for keeping the flock of sheep that was used for the temple sacrifices.

The “Good News” of Jesus’ birth changed the shepherds forever.
But can that same good news still change lives today?

The Good News of Jesus birth did not change everybody’s life.  Last week we looked at Herod.  His life was not changed.  He was as mean as ever.  The chief priests, who gave instructions to the Wise Men, were not changed.  They were not willing to even travel the 4 or 5 miles to investigate Jesus’ birth.  These shepherds were changed because of their response to the good news.  Their positive response to the message of Christ gave them something that no one could ever steal from them.

PS.  By the way, I have just released a new Kindle book for Christmas and I think you may enjoy it and be able to use it for your Bible Study Group.  It is a Christmas Bible trivia quiz game book.  You may know that I also wrote and published a Bible trivia quiz book last Easter.  This one is very similar.  Please do me a favor and take a quick look at it here.  I do not know exactly when you will be looking at this page, but if Amazon holds true to form, it will be offering this interactive game book as a free promotion sometime between now and Christmas.  So you may just get lucky.  They may also be selling it for just 99 cents.  Please click on over and take a look.
