My Pastor and I are currently in discussion about starting one in the
spring of next year. Based upon our research in spite of the economic
climate its a great time to do a campaign.

Here are my thoughts:

Hi, I’m new here, but have led a few campaigns.

Obviously, the best time to do a campaign is when you need to.  And Of
course, it should be before you do your project.  As you probably
know, it is much easier to raise money before a project begins than
after it is over.  Some of your church members might think that if you
wait until after the new project, there will be new people who will
help you.  That is something you really cannot count on.  New people
will not be as likely to jump on board for a project that someone else
felt necessary to do, even if they are the ones who benefit.  People
who have been around for the ride may feel that since the project has
already been built that it is OK and there must not be a real “need”
to get involved.  It is much easier to raise money before you begin.
If you feel the economy is not good for a capital campaign for a
building project, then perhaps the question to ask is whether it is a
good time to build or should we delay our plans to build.  That
discussion is not really fun, but it will certainly test the
congregation’s commitment to the project and if they agree it is a
 good time to proceed, then they will likely also commit to the capital
campaign.
