The Adventure of a New Year

Adventure of a New YearAre You Ready for the Adventure of a New Year?

“By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.” Hebrews 11:8 (NASB)

Abraham’s Adventure

We read about Abraham leaving his home, his family, his community, and his culture to go to a new place and we think, “Oh, yes.  I’ve read that before.  What a splendid trip that must have been.”  However, for Abraham, it was not a trip, it was an completely new life.  It is hard for me to imagine what it must have been like taking everything you own and packing it up and moving it … every day.  But that was his reality, along with Sarah’s.  They went out “not knowing where he was (they were) going.”

Adventure of a New Year

In one sense, each New Year is like that journey of Abraham.  God has called each of us on a great adventure of faith in daily obedience to Him and, like Abraham, we do not know exactly where we are going or what lies ahead.  Abraham experienced amazing blessings, awesome encounters with God, terrible temptations, armed conflicts, family in-fighting, disabling doubts, bewildering delays, dreadful detours, incredible instructions, and the continual presence of God.  Are you ready to experience the adventure of a new year?

Life Is An Adventure!

Life is an adventure.  We like to play it safe, but that is not always possible.  Helen Keller said, “Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”  That is so true.  Abraham’s life might not have been any safer, easier, or longer if he had stayed in Ur of the Chaldea’s.  Amelia Earhart, great American Aviator said, “Adventure is worthwhile in itself.”  How true.  After all, who wants to live a boring life of taking your temperature every day?  Whether you have a more cautious personality or a wild and crazy personality, God has an adventure suited just for you and your stage of life.

God Has An Adventure For You!

What adventure has God called you to take in 2015?  He called Saul and Barnabas to set out on a missionary journey to the Gentiles.  He called Peter, Andrew, James, and John away from their nets.  He called Matthew away from his business.  He still calls people to follow Him today.  Your adventure may not involve a change of location, but a change of vocation.  I cannot answer for you.  All I can say, is do not fear to walk through the door of adventure that God has set before you in 2015, because, like Abraham, you will not have to walk through it alone.

Your are loved,

Bro. Kelly
